Of Beauty and Beast by Stacey Jay

“A tale as old as time….”

I’m a sucker for fairytale remixes, and I have to say that this may be one of my favorites for The Beauty and the Beast.

Of Beast and Beauty is set in a different world where judgment is cast on people by the way they look. There are the smooth skinned who are “perfect”, the banished who aren’t whole and the Monstrous who look part animal and part human.

The main characters are Isra, a blind smooth skinned princess of the domed city, Yuan. She has been raised to believe that her life belongs to her city and that one-day she will be expected to sacrifice herself for Yuan’s preservation.

Gem is a Monstrous from outside the domed city who was captured trying to steal from the city. His goal is to keep his clan from being destroyed by the hardship of living on the outside.

Gem and Isra get to know each other as they try to find a way where their two civilizations can live in peace. Though in doing so they also uncover truths about Yuan’s history that changes their whole worlds.

This is a great book and I quite enjoyed reading it. I have a super power where I can guess how a book will end (yeah, I don't like to brag) but every once in a while I get a book that stumps me (lets call it my kryptonite) and well this was one of them. So good, very good ;).

If you like the Lunar Chronicles or any fairytales/Sci-fi books I would recommend this book for you. Or if you just finished reading a bad book and need to wash the taste out of your mouth, Of Beauty and Beast will satisfy your need.

Hope you enjoy it :D
