Now, I know Summer hasn't officially ended, but its that time of year where you do all your back to school shopping and if you're looking for some books to put in your back pack, you might consider some of these.
Five
Eragon by Christopher Paolini
I made the commitment long ago to read these books and I prevailed, (when Paolini FINALLY decided to finish the last two books). I enjoyed this story very much and believe its worth the long journey it took to read them. You really get to see the characters mature in this long battle for the freedom of Alagaesia.
Four
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
I can't remember for the life of me why I first picked up this book but it was the best/worst decision I ever made. I have read this series from start to finish every time Clare brings out another book for the series, and for my studies.... well it doesn't help ;). In every book the stakes get higher and the story becomes more complicated. Totally worth it.
Three
The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
This trilogy really looks into what humans will do to get what they want, what kind of monsters they're willing to become just to hold the most power. They're really intense books that explore life on an other planet... think Avatar (the movie) but so much better and a lot more twisted. Honestly a work of art.
Two
Ella Enchanted by Gale Carson Levine
If I were to ever choose a favorite book it'd have to be Ella Enchanted, since I first read it in grade six, I have continued to read it again at least once a year. Its not part of a series but its definitely the book to put you in a good mood for a new year. Its such a sweet book that I'd recommend it to anyone who needs a little pick me up. I also want it on the record that the movie is nothing like the book. Think Cinderella.
One
The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
I have read lots of books and I've enjoyed most of them, but the Wheel of Time series is some of the best literature I have ever come across. Such an epic story, you get introduced to the characters at a young age and watch them grow to become warriors, magicians, shape-shifters and saviours. You see the struggle of one man with the weight of the whole world is on his shoulders. 14 books with more than 1000 pages each is a huge commitment but you won't regret it.
I hope you enjoy it :D
